The Significance and Application of Philosophy in Daily Life

The wisdom of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads is timeless. We will discuss the core principles of these teachings and how they are relevant to us individually and collectively.

You will gain a more solid understanding of Eastern philosophy and its application in daily life.

Realization of Intellectual, Emotional and Human Evolution through Meditation

Because meditation is something to be experienced and not studied, a significant part of our course is dedicated to the practice of meditation. We will explore various meditation techniques and see how meditation affects our mental and emotional layers, and how meditation can facilitate healing.

With firsthand experience and understanding of meditation, you will be better equipped to integrate meditation into your teaching and guide your students in their meditation practices.

The Psychology of the Yogic System

The yogic system was created out of careful observation of the human body, its holistic functions and its relationship with itself and its surroundings. It is a system which can be used to bring tremendous benefit, but if used incorrectly, can cause negative side effects.

By understanding the inter-relatedness of each aspect of the yogic system, you will be able to create classes which positively benefit your students’ well-being.

Asanas

The advance  yoga poses will be theoretically and practically examined from a physical and energetic perspective. You will learn to do and teach advance poses with correct alignment and how to provide your students with the necessary modifications with and without props.

Teaching Methodology and Ethics

As a teacher you need to be able to effectively and efficiently get your point across to your students, while maintaining a professional relationship which provides an environment of trust and comfort which encourages maximum learning and growth.

You will learn the basic methods of teaching both in a group and individual setting.

We will examine these physical structures and functions of the body:

  1. The musculoskeletal system
  2. The respiratory system
  3. The digestive system
  4. The endocrine system

At the end of this module, we will also look at the various dis-eases of the body which can be alleviated through yogic practices. You will be able to see the yoga poses from an anatomical and physiological point of view, so that you will be able to prevent injuries and negative side effects in your students.

We will discuss the benefits and contraindications of and put into practice these advanced breathing techniques:

  1. Moola Bandha (Root Lock)
  2. Uddiyana Bandha (Abdominal Lock)
  3. Jalandhara Bandha (Chin Lock)
  4. Maha Bandha (Great Lock)

Kriya

  1. Trataka (Candle-Gazing)
  2. Nauli (Internal Cleansing)

The Science of Vinyasa –

The sequencing of a vinyasa class is a science, because certain poses are complementary to each other and others are not. A class sequence also depends on the theme of the class. You will learn the rules of vinyasa sequencing and other aspects to consider while planning a sequence.
